Removing wiper cowl?

Help!
Being from California and not understanding what cold and snow will do to a car, I turned on the wipers to remove the snow that fell on the windshield overnight while visiting Minnesota last winter. The wiper transmission linkage incurred damage and now they slap into the cowling when turned on. I want to replace the wiper linkage DIY but I can't figure out how to remove the plastic cowling to gain access. I purchased a Chilton repair manual at the local part store but the instructions there are too vague. I would appreciate any help. I have removed the four plastic snap plugs along the front side so far.=)

I have an 2006 Accord EX.

Thanks, Abel...

See links:

The following service bulletin was for 2003 Accord wiper recall; but, it has some applicable instructions.

Re: Removing wiper cowl?

Thanks for the information. It appears that the cowl for a 2003 is different than a 2006. I believe the retaining clips on the 06 are hidden on the underside of the cowl out of eyesight. After I removed the front retaining plugs (all that is visible) I tugged on the cowling pretty hard but it wouldn't budge. It seems to be held at the windshield edge of the cowl. Any ideas?

Re: Removing wiper cowl?

The instructions and the cowls for a 2003 and 2006 are the same. There are 6 clips (1 of the 6 holds both the left and right sides) that need to be removed to get the left side (driver's side) cowl off, you stated only 4 were removed.

That link picture is small and not clearly detailed, that is why you can't see them. There are 14 clips that need to be removed to completely remove both side cowl.

I believe its got a bunch of plastic clips that hold it on, which you will need to pry up to get out. Some of them may be hidden by caps.

Thanks I'll give it a try. I am just apprehensive of breaking the cowl and having the extra expense to buy a replacement. I'll post how it went. :)

Re: Removing wiper cowl?

Depending on how you try to remove it, it's more likely you would break a clip or two than the cowl.

Okay, found a picture on ebay. :P I added some arrows and notes. This is a view from the underside of the cowl.

You probably removed the 4 front clips from the top. The other 10 clips are under the cowl.

The cowl is pretty strong, I dont see how youd break it unless you dont remove a clip.

WOW! this is exactly what I've been looking for. As you can see in the photo, not all cowls are alike in the 2003-2006 Accords.

I've been so busy working on Xmas shopping I have to put this project off until Dec. 26th., unless I get some great new toy. Ha.

Merry Christmas to all and thanks "tech8". :)

2003 and 2006 are alike, it's just that the service manual pics. aren't very good. The same service manual instructions are used for both.

Thanks for posting the picture and instructions for removing the cowl. It kept me from breaking [even more] connectors. :)
