Default Quick Question On Engine Oils

I have the 7th gen accord '03 and i recently went to the mechanic for an engine oil change. In the owner's manual it says that 5W-20 is recommended, yet I noticed he put in 5W-40. Is there any difference at all, and if so what is it?

Thanks, Boggy.

It says 5w-40 is for diesel and trucks, that can be bad for your car. It should only be the 5W-20 weather is it regualr or synthetic.

5w-30 is acceptable, but 5w-40 may be too thick. the only thing i can see is higher oil pressure. i'd think it would be ok, but if it were me i'd go back and get it done right(i never brought my car to anyone before though, heh)

It's synthetic. I don't race it, and I live in California, Los Angeles.

I use 5W-30 on my car with the turbo and have yet to have any sort of problem, I used 5W-30 pre-turbo also, but 5W-40 is pushing it.

i use 0W-20 Amsoil with amsoil filter, no need for an oil change for every 25K, im going every 20K b/c my oil change was 60K, and i drive about 20K a year, so once a year will be nice!!! Car runs smooth!!! ill send my oil in when im done and get it tested to see if it even neded to be changed!!

Even at those long drain intervels you'll still need to change the filter every 4-7k miles (depending on what kind of driving you do).

**Edit, wow this is a old thread. way to resurrect a old thread dle :D

I bet that you'd notice a drop in fuel economy going with that heavier oil
