Purchasing a 03 6-6. Input?
I've been looking for something more fuel efficient to replace my truck I have for a daily driver now. I was looking into Civics and RSXs, and decided to take a look at Accords just for kicks. First time I saw the black 2003 6-6 sitting in the lot, I fell in love.
Anyway, I'm dead serious about finding one now. I have all of my friends at the Honda dealerships looking for them for me. But is there anything I should look out for? I've heard problems with the A5's in 2003, but no problems with the manual. Anything else I should watch for when looking?

i have a 05 black coupe 6-6.
that thing HAULS ASSSSS
but if ur gonna beat on it, u will get shitty *** gas mileage i guarentee that, if u drive it nicely, it will suprise u, especially on the highway.
thinks u should look for is try to get one thats certified, the clutch is in good condition, clean history. a known problem with the 6-6 is that it pops out once every 50 times when u put it in forth gear. not a big issue, im having my 3rd and 4th gear syncros replaced from warrenty

I have an 05 black 6-6 as well. I'll agree, it's surprisingly quick. I picked mine up from the dealer certified pre-owned with 43,xxx miles for 16,500. Fully loaded except for navigation - not a bad deal.
I went from an 04 audi A4 1.8t fully loaded with the sport package to this. Constantly had the audi in the shop so I wanted something more reliable.
It is much quicker acceleration wise but the handling leaves a bit to be desired. It already had neuspeed lowering springs so that helps, and I think if I replace the tires with something other than the **** on there it won't be half bad.

The last tank I monitored on my 2006 6-6 Coupe was 28.5 mpg. It was 10% ethanol, 93 octane, and there were a few occasions of brisk acceleration in that particular tank. (Merging problems in NoVA traffic can lead to full throttle high RPM on occasion.)
Other tanks have been in the 30 - 31 range, driving normally. But I am old and slow. :-)
The thing to remember is that you have two stages of performance enhancement. Once you know where the secondary runners open up, and where the old fashioned VTEC comes on the cam, you can drive fairly briskly without hurting gas mileage too much.

You might like it better with just the OEM HFP suspension (usually for around $600 - $650, a great buy) or perhaps with the stock suspension + TL-S sway bars.

28.5mpg is amazing! I have a 3.0L truck and im lucky to get 18, and that is babying it every day.
Hell, the Accord is rated at 21/30. I'd settle for 25 no problem. oh, and PM sent george

Haha...I could only dream about getting those MPG.
I got about 23 on my first tank (only had the car for 2 weeks) - but I have a heavy foot at times.
Thanks for the input George about the suspension. It's not a total pig, but I think it could definitely use some better sway bars - maybe a rear strut tower bar if they make it? It doesn't feel like it would benefit too much from aftermarket shocks, but maybe in time I'll start looking into some. I've read the HFP is a very marginal increase over the stock 6-6 suspension. So I was figuring it couldn't be noticeably better than my neuspeed springs with stock shocks could it?

The Facelift G7 cars (2006 and 2007) have revised suspension bushings in both the 6-6 Sedan and 6-6 Coupe. A friend bought a 6-6 Sedan at the same time I bought a 6-6 Coupe, and something that I noticed was that the Sedan's suspension seemed a little better than the Coupe's.
The HFP Suspension for the Coupe is a package of Showa dampers and springs. I guess you'll have to decide for yourself whether you think Showa knows what it's doing with the combination of tuning the springs and shocks together. From past experience and past mistakes, I would not be inclined to put somebody else's springs onto Honda OEM Showa dampers.
I have driven a 6-6 Coupe with regular suspension and a 6-6 Coupe with HFP Suspension, and I think it's definitely an improvement worth the $650 cost.
The HFP Suspension alters the visuals of the Coupe's lines, too. As with some Spoon designs on the DC2, the Honda HFP Suspension appears visually to lower the rear of the car a little more than the nose, and some people might not like that.
Putting the TL-S swaybars on either the Sedan or Coupe is a very popular modification, and it's very cheap, too. There's a 19mm rear bar you can put on, a 20mm rear bar you can put on, and a 27mm front bar that some people like to use in combination with the bigger rear bar.

I've read certain gears synchros go out early - I think 3rd and 4th maybe?
My 3rd gear pops right back out if I don't put it in exactly how it likes it - not a huge deal, and it should be covered under your warranty - but just a heads up.
