I think I'm hearing pinging when I go up a slight incline and I climb at a steady speed. Maybe 25 - 35% throttle.

Or even when I accelerate moderately.

I don't seem to hear it at all when on the freeway, but only when at moderate speeds, and seemingly with only a less than 50% throttle use.

Is this really pinging? It's a high pitched ringing sound, but I'm just not sure.

Could be.

Have you checked to make sure none of the exhaust shields are rattling? The intermediate shaft shield?

Have you tried running a higher octane fuel to see if the noise goes away? An engine that pings lightly on 87 will usually be cured with 89 or 91 octane.

Some of the V6 models have a software update for that too.

If it is pinging a few maintenance area's to look at are water temps (thermo , radiator and fans), EGR operation (not plugged/caked up passages) and possible carbon build up .

Is there a way for me to check the software with just a scanner?

I have the computer scanning program that I plug into my OBD, and I'm hoping I can check the version, etc.
