Default odometer rollback (digital) ?

is it possible? the reason i ask is because im about to buy this 04 accord tomorrow but carfax reports an "inconsistent odometer reading" and i was wondering if it could be user error when reporting it? also, i understand the odometer is digital so should i be worried at 114k miles on a 2004 accord?

if it helps, the inconsistent reading was reported in 2006 at 36k miles with its 4th owner. the first 3 owners' length of ownership was 1 year and 10 months and it was reported at 38k miles at the end of the 3rd owner.

many thanks
richard

Of course it's possible. There's videos on YouTube of digital odometers being rolled back.

is there any way of verifying with the ecu to know how much miles are on the car?

maybe 36 was supposed to 39 either way that is a bargaining tool that you could correct after ownership.

4 owners on a 5 year old car? It must be a lemon or something.

i thought the ecu determines the number, not the gauges (digital).

The mileage is stored in the cluster.

so on the older cars with analog odometers, the mileage is stored in the ecu?

I wouldn't buy it..most likely it has higher mileage than what is showed.
