Mechanic changed serpentine belt still hear sound?

Hi, I have a 2005 Honda Accord it has about 87,000 miles give or take a few, and as of the past couple weeks when i turn the car on in the morning i get a loud sound coming from the belt (i think the belt), kind of like a squeal. I also heard it loud when i turned the wheel and when i accelerated, if i drive for a while, about 20-30 minutes it goes away, but i hear it every morning and afternoon when i turn the car on. I took it to the mechanic on saturday and he said it was the serpentine belt, he replaced it and for the rest of the day it was fine. I turned the car on sunday morning and the sound was back! Could it be possible it wasnt the serpentine belt at all, maybe its the tension pulley? any suggestions, its really getting frustrating and we paid good money for the new serpentine belt, any input is appreciated, Thanks!

If it is still making the noise, then the serpentine belt was not the problem. It can be a couple of things, like the tensioner pulley, ac clutch bearing, power steering pump.

I would first check the ps fluid level, low ps fluid level will cause a noisy ps pump. But even if it's fine, the ps pump could still be the culprit. It's pretty common on v6 engines for the ps pump to fail. If you still aren't sure, try using a stethoscope or a long handled screwdriver and place it on each component of the accessory drive system and listen. The failing component should be much more obvious then.

Checking the PS fluid level is a very simple task. The PS reservoir is located on the passenger side of the engine bay, it will have a red round cap on it. There are two lines on the side of the reservoir, fluid should be at the top line.

Here's a small picture of an engine bay, the PS reservoir is circled in red. Hope this helps.

I am betting on the P/S pump and it's not low fluid related. When cold, they tend to suck in air, causing a squeal sound. You need to replace the inlet hose o-ring with Honda's new upgraded o-ring and this should cure your issues. Cost for the o-ring will be around $1.00(depends upon dealer). Make sure the o-ring in orange in color, this is the upgraded part. HTH
