Map Lights Only Work When Door is OPEN

Map Lights Only Work When Door is OPEN
First, my car is a 2004 Honda Accord Ex 4-cylinder w/ sun roof.
My past hour of internet searching tells me this is a weird one. It all started because my driver side Map light would only come on while continuously pressing it in. Also, the lights would not turn on when the doors opened. I decided the switch was bad, so I pulled it all out. The switches were $13 on Amazon, but I figured I could fix one myself. I pried it open with a knife, and bent all the metal pieces out a bit more to ensure continuous contact. Put it all back together and reinstalled everything.
However, now the lights only work when the switch is in the "Door" position and the door is open! While the door is open, they toggle on and off when pressed, which I don't think they are supposed to do. If the switch is in the "OFF" position, or the door is closed, they don't work at all! Do any of you know how I can fix it, or have a suggestion for a place to look?
Thanks so much
EDIT: I figured it out. After looking at the circuity on the piece, I realized that one of the switch positions leads to a ground. That means that particular ground point is only used if the button is pressed. Therefore, if the button isn't pressed, there must be another ground. The lights will only light up if the door is open, without the button being pressed, but will turn off once the button is pressed. That means the ground in the circuitry wasn't connected. The ground in the circuitry is connected by being screwed into the chassis. I made sure to give my screws and washers a thorough cleaning, and screwed them in tight. Voila, problem solved.
In a less rambling way: Make sure the Map light unit is fully screwed in when testing! Otherwise you will have my issue.
