Can anyone tell me when Honda recommends you to change the transmission fluid?

Reason I ask is I am planning to get a 03 V6 and I have heard of some tranny issues. But from what I have read, by changing the tranny fluid at least every 15k-30k, I should be ok.

Now if I purchase an 03 that has around 60k and it was taken in for routine maintenance, would they be changing the tranny fluid so often?

At our local dealer it was part of the 30k mile service. This was on a 06 V6 6speed.

If it has more then 50K and never been changed, changing will do more harm then good.

Each dealership is different, but I think they would have at least checked the condition of the fluid. Test drive the car for issues, but you should be ok. My 03 V6 is doing fine at 54k miles, but I've changed out 3 quarts every 15k miles. The schedule in the owner's manual says 120k miles, but there's no way I would wait that long.

We do it every 30k I think the books shows it less often but as you said some of these have had issues.

Thats not proven to be true at all.

I had a hard shifting Automatic 89 Civic Sedan w/ 120K on it. Changed the fluid I had never seen that amount of sludge on any Honda magnetic filler bolt. I filled it up with OEM Honda ATF. Drove the car for 1K miles, and changed it again. More shavings came out. Kept changing it @ 15K miles, and totaled the car at 255K miles two years ago.

To the OP:

Get car, then drain and refill.
Drive 1K miles, then do it again.
Change it every 15K miles after that.

At my workplace (Honda Dealer) we change the trans fuild every 30. The most problimatic Accord trans are the 99-01 v6 trans. That is why Honda extended the warranty on these units. With the reputation this trans have built we also recommend more often fuild trans just to be on the safe side. But "to each their own"
