Manifold cover bolt broke

Manifold cover bolt broke
Hey, so I'm really just hoping for some peace of mind... I broke one of the manifold cover bolts right where the threads start. Already managed to pull it out with the ezout bolt removal tool but now I'm worried that a few of the shavings from when I drilled the bolt may have fallen in... If any did, it would be minimal, but I'm not sure if its one of those things where the slightest thing could be a major problem.
Already took the car for a spin around the block and everything seemed normal.
Any tips?

Re: Manifold cover bolt broke
I believe it's called the manifold cover. It the big silver part that sits where the engine is. I have the same 03 accord ex as you. It's the part with 11 bolts that sits right in the middle when you open the hood.
I'd rather not pull the entire cover off just because I don't wanna mess anything up by accident, so I'm not 100% sure where the shavings fell in to. My guess is whatever sits on the other side of the bolts...

OK, now I know what you are talking about. As long as you didn't remove the cover, none of the shaving could get in the intake manifold. Those bolts are only supposed to be torqued to 8.7 lbft, so it's easy to snap one off. Why were you removing those bolts in the first place? Valve adjustment?
PS: Put your car information in your signature, like I did, so people will always know what car you are asking about.

Re: Manifold cover bolt broke
If they go into the intake manifold, they would end up in the combustion chamber, and that's bad news. But, I don't think the cover bolt holes go through the intake, to the inside, so unless he had the cover off, and the shavings got in that way, he should be fine. I suppose he could have made a hole through the intake when drilling for the ez-out, but let's hope that didn't happen.

Hah, definitely didn't go that deep. I was scared to death of going too far so I was checking the es out every few seconds of drilling. Seems like all is good.

Yeah, I was trying to avoid that question... I was basically just tinkering around for no reason and testing out my torque wrench. I must have overtightened it in the past and it was hanging on by a threat. Try not to judge

Judge? I'm as guilty as anyone. I've snapped a couple of those bolts before myself, on my first Accord. The sad part is, I had the factory service manual, and didn't bother to look up the torque specs. Lesson learned, the hard way. I was just wondering if you were adjusting valves, or something even more serious. Good luck with the car.

Re: Manifold cover bolt broke
I think I'm probably just going to stick with the easier stuff from now on... Nothing I can destroy too bad. The goal now is the ATF, replace break pads (maybe rotors), and brake fluids... I think I can take a nice break after that.

Re: Manifold cover bolt broke
Sounds like a guy I work with. Nothing is ever tight enough, until it breaks. You do know the piston on the rear calipers has to be turned in, right? When I do a drain and fill, I fill through the recall jet kit hole (where the fill bolt used to be), which is a lot bigger than the dipstick tube. Good luck, and try not to break anything.
