Low pitched whistle??
Hello,
I've asked this question on this forum before and have gotten a lot of different feedback. I received a different answer from a car guy I know and wanted to run it by everyone..
Ever since I can remember after purchasing my car, new in May of 2004, I have heard this low pitched whistle while I depress the gas peddle. It seems to be louder when the A/C is on, especially at speeds around 50 MPH. I never bothered to ask the dealer about it because it doesn't seem to do anything but be annoying. My wife and I call it my "hyper drive". I'm approaching 87,000 miles on the car now and had purchased the 5 yr/100,000 warranty for it when I bought the car new. I would, of course, like to have this covered under it if I can designate where this sound is coming from.
So, my car guy says...he thinks it's my transmission. He says it sounds mechanical and not a leaking hose, an air-intake issue or my A/C. He says he ties it to the transmission because it only makes the noise when I depress the gas peddle.
What do you guys think about this new theory?
Thanks.

Re: Low pitched whistle?? (Landshark68)
from your description, it does seems it's related to transmission...
I know 03'-04' V6 models(VIN starts with 1HG...) automatics had recall.
Had to deal with heat buildup between the countershaft and secondary shaft in A/T. Without enough oil flow to dissipate heat.
I know you dont want to but if it really bothers you, you should go test drive with one of the tech and point it out.
