Honda Accord oil crush washer question?
hi everyone, i have a 05 accord 4cyl lx 4 dr, i have a question about the crush washer that were supposed to change every oil change, there seems to be 2 sides, one has a shiny round side, where the other side has a dull flat side. is there a proper way this is supposed to go on, like flat side sitting against the bolt and round against the oil pan? does it really matter because i did my oil change yesterday and i put the round shiny side facing the drain bolt and the flat dull side is facing the pan, if this is the wrong way, will i get by until the next oil change? thanks everyone.

interesting... I just checked my collection of crush washers in the garage, all I see is a stamping difference between the two sides. I wouldn't think it would matter

It probably doesn't matter, but I always put the rounded side toward the bolt head, and the flat side against the pan. We bolt up a lot of different things where I work, and the rounded side always goes out, because that way there is less of an edge on the part facing out. Doesn't really apply when the drain bolt covers the entire washer, but I do it that way anyhow.

believe me... you are not putting that much torque on the bolt... and the case is vented so there is no real pressure.

I think we are suppose to put 60lbs of pressure on the bolt. But whatever my muscle strength is works fine, and no problem getting the bolt loose, or with leaks. IMO, 60lbs it too tight. One is likely to strip the bolt at 60lbs, as I have, after the dealer did one of the oil changes.

^60 is way to much.
I usually do 30lb, but I rarely change my own oil, as I get free oil changes for any newer honda.
