I have an 04 3.0 Accord which lost the number one plug. Not sure how but, I changed the plugs 20Kmiles ago, the plug backed out and stripped the threads in the head. Took out the coil also. So my question is, are helicoils a safe and reliable option in this head. The car is my wifes primary transportation and I don't wan't it to have any problems.

it depends on the damage... but in general yes.
head aren't that expensive if it need to be replaced.

Thanks for the answers. I worry about metal in the engine, how hard is the head to replace?

There is quite a bit involved doing a head, like doing a head gasket but have to move over all the valve train etc.

I would either do the timesert, there is video online, doesn't seem that hard, but maybe have someone experienced to do it or practice first to get the hang of it.

Ahhhh tuffy. If you are inexperienced with timecerts or helicoils it is easy for things to go south quickly. Take your time and search on line for some good how-to videos. Many parts/tool companies offer how-to videos on youtube these days.
