G7 Performance
I'm looking at buying a G7 Accord, but I'm stuck between buying a K24 or J30 one. Besides the obvious margins in initial power, are there any other trade offs? My first notion was to go for the K24 since it's all the rave with the other chassis and I was looking to get one myself before I lost my car to fire. I'm looking at FI in the build so was wondering are there any significant issues with the J30 and boost. Does it handle it well stock? Or are there companies selling pistons/rods to handle the added stress? Is it common to swap out the J30 for a J32 or J35 from the Acuras? Is FMIC piping a pain in the *** for either or both motors? Thanks in advance you guys and look forward to posting the new ride soon.

I'd go with the 4banger... there are so many bolt on performance mods for that motor.... especially compared to the J series.... K series can handle 12lbs of boost very safely! depending on your mechanical skill... id go with the k24.. super reliable motor, better gas mileage, more options as far as aftermarket parts etc.... hope that helps a lil!

I'd go with the 6-6. You'll be about 1.5 seconds quicker in the 1/4 stock. There are many options for the j30 accord. For a few thousand you can have a master technician somewhere on the east coast do a monster j36 build, using all oem parts from the 3, 3.2 and 3.7 liter engines. They dino at about 300 who and have ridiculous torque, about 250 wtq or so. Also you can use a j32 supercharger with minor mods such as smaller radiator, and minor things relocated. I absolutely loved my 6-6 and could never go with the 2.4 if I got another accord. Yes, aftermarket support for the K is better, but the difference is nearly 100 hp stock.

I think that's my main issue right now. Is the aftermarket support for the J Series. If I want to boost the K, my only concern is the IC piping. If I want to boost a J, you're looking at a good deal of custom work.
If you're talking about NVA-AV6 aka "Paul", I know all about his exploits over on V6P. He's only 3hrs driving from me and I'll probably give him a ring before I buy. I understand your argument of being on the better half of 300whp, but if it takes me 20 grand to get to 450whp vs likely less than half in a K24, that's an issue.

Looking back i wish I would have went k24. if you for sure going to do motor work then yes go k24 because there is much more of a market and a lot better tuning options. J series is picking up and paul can build you a 600whp motor but it will cost twice as much as building a high HP k24.

I believe a company makes a supercharger for the J30 I found it once and is good for 300hp easily. I love my J30. When you push it to redline wide open it doesn't whine like a 4cyl it roars and the 6 speed is great on accel. 0-60 in 5.8 or 6 flat only using 1st and 2nd. Ive averaged at times in mine around 33 mpg at 75mph. Either one is a good choice though.

If this topic came up pre-2008, one could argue for a 3.0 (though I wouldn't have). Not today though. Go for the 4-cyl K24!!
First an foremost, economy!!! If getting more displacment for performance was your path out of the box, than you should be looking at something like Ford's new coyote 5.0 V8. (Ok that may be a bit extreme, but you get my point). To me, there is far greater reward in builing up a 4-banger that is typically easier to service, build-up, rebuild and enjoy.
And have you looked at pump prices lately? You can bet we'll see $5.00 per gallon before we ever see under $3.00 per gallon again... So add annual fuel savings to your list which could tally thousands at the end of the year depening on how much you drive annually.
My CR-Vs, Accords and Civics have ALWAYS been outfitted with 4-cylinders, and NEVER did I once regret any of them in lieu of the 6.
