Default "check fuel cap"

I have a 2010 accord with about 65k miles, when i drive my car this afternoon i get the message in the dashboard saying "check fuel cap", it didn't show when i drove it this morning. I checked the fuel cap, and i waited till tonight, but it is still showing me to check the fuel cap. This is the second time that happens, the first time that happened was when the car was only about 25k miles few years ago, but the message was gone the next day. anyone know why this happens? even though i didn't touch the fuel cap, and even checked it too.

How cold is it overnight where you live? Cold weather can shrink seals, they expand as it warms up and seal properly.

Even if the CEL is out, you should have a stored code. Pull it to see what it says.

Every time you fill up, tighten the fill cap at least 3 clicks. If you don't you may get that message afterward, may not always be right away, similar to what you're experiencing. Relatively common.

Hi, a few days ago, my 2011 accord showed the check fuel cap message, at that time, I tighted the fuel cap and drove it for a while, the message was gone. But today, the check engine light was on, what's the problem? I bought a new fuel cap from autozone, and drove it for a long time, but the light was still there. Would you like to give me some suggestions for that. Thanks

Try a new Honda OEM gas cap gasket or gas cap w/ gasket.

I'm coming again, it seems very weird. One weeks ago I replaced a new fuel cap, but today the mileage screen shows " check fuel cap " again. What's the problem???

1. Was the new gas cap purchased from the Honda dealer?

2. After filling up, are you turning it till you hear at least 3 clicks?
