Can I use 10w40 on my 2004 Accord?

Before I get flames for given bad advice.
From your other posts, you got a 03 with 114 miles. What does it say on the oil cap and owner's manual? Buy that.
Since you are asking the question, I assume you got some 10-40 around the house. Is it ok to use. I think so? I've done it for years. No, I don't on purpose use the wrong oil, but if I got one bottle opened and need a top-off on car #2 or #3, I'll use it, before I open another new bottle.
It's not going to blow up your engine. Even if you got a lot more and want to use it up instead of letting it sit to waste, I say go for it.
IMO, the most important thing with oil is change.
Run....and hide from flames.

5W20 is correct for your ride, but I agree drew the most important part of oil is change.
I would maybe go 5-30 if it was cheaper/available, but I would try to stay away from 40-and 50 weight oils. Thats my 2 cent on oil.

No oil consumption what-so-ever. No leaks as well. I just bought the car and one of my old teachers in my automotive classes a while ago said its best to use the recommended on newer cars, but negligible on older cars.
Sorry I didnt add but I have the 2.4L K24 motor.
It says 5w-20 but I only have 10w40 at home so I am wondering if it would be harmful for my motor since every other cars at the house uses 10w40.

10w40 won't kill the engine but it wouldn't be the best for it, as it's quite thick for an engine that specs a 5w20. I think it's kind of silly to cheap out on engine oil like this, considering how important oil is for the longevity for the engine.
My personal recommendation, buck up and just buy Honda's 5w20 for the car. It's not worth it to run a thick oil in an engine that's made for a thin oil, and if you're not burning or leaking any oil at all, it's kind of pointless. Doing it for the sake of saving a couple of bucks isn't in the best interest for your engine (in the long run), and it's not exactly prohibitively expensive considering you know it's good for the engine.

It says 5w20 for a reason. Tolerances are tight with the k series engines. They were made to run with the 5w20 oil. if you use heavier weight oils you risk engine damage. If you're not getting oil consumption now DO NOT move to a higher weight unless you want to have oil consumption issues in the future.
Speaking of oil consumption... with my old civic I found that the car used about 1 qt every 2000 miles or so. I switched to a high quality synthetic oil. I used Royal Purple with recommended oil weight for the first "clean" then switched to castrol syntec for the time I kept the car. After two oil changes I noted that oil consumption had gone down quite a bit. When all was said and done it used around 1/2 to 1qt every 5000 miles. My guess is the piston rings were frozen thanks to somewhat poor upkeep on the previous owners part.
I personally use and recommend Castrol Syntec 5w20 for my accord. You can pick up a 5qt jug at wal-mart for about $20. If that's too much you can get synthetic blend for about $12 per 5qt jug. For filters I use and recommend Purolator pureone filters.

Conventional oil is conventional oil. If you're not having consumption or leak issues just go with the suggested weight.
Syntec is ****, it sludges and burns off like no oil i've ever seen, hell, it burns worse than Quaker Q. If you want a good synthetic go buy Penzoil Platinum, trust me.

I've never had those issues with ether of the cars I've used it in. Though I guess it's worth looking at other alternatives. Amsoil would be my first choice if it was available locally though

Sure you could use up what you have in the 10-40 while trying to save a few bucks while using what you have laying around... but I agree with the other posters that you will just be asking for trouble down the line. Also with the thicker viscosity oil you will most likely get lower fuel economy and will probably easily see a loss of 1-3 mpg's because of this so you need to really ask yourself if it's worth using what you have laying around just to clean up some shelf space or save a buck... I'd suggest just selling that extra on craigslist if you have a case laying around that you can't use and buying some full synthetic 5w20.
