Break-in Motor Oil (2007 Honda Accord)

I have read online that the 2007 Accord's motor oil comes from the factory with additives to aid in the break in period of the car. The manual says to change oil either when the service light comes on or after one year, whichever happens first. The car, which belongs to my mom (who does not drive much), has less than 1,000 miles on it, but just over a year has passed.

Is it important to let the break in oil finish its job and change the oil only after the service light comes on, or should I change the oil now? Thanks.

Keep driving the car. The crude oil has been under the ground for thousands of years, I think it can stand a few more in your mom's car.

Motor oil not only collects contaniments caused by engine use, moisture is also collected by short trips which do not allow the engine to warm completely up. Just the fact that a car sets "in the garage" allows moisture to collect in the crank case over an extended time. I'm not sure leaving oil in the engine and change only after 3k miles is a good idea.

Anyhow, it would not be my choice. https://honda-tech.com/forums/images...es/emsmile.gif

After a year of just sitting I would change it out, you'll want to get that assembly lube out of there, and well as any metal particulates that are more than likely oxidizing internally. Its really not an issue of loosing any additives as long as you stay with Dinosaur, that is what is conditioning your metals.... after two runs of fossil you can change over to synth blend or fully synth

My .02 which has served me well
