Default Is this battery busted?

Hi,

It has been 3 days since we bought a Honda Accord EX - 2.4 L/4 cyl and the batteries look like in attached picture. (White stuff around the positive/negative terminals)

The car has around 48K miles and the batter died once overnight. However, it gave no trouble after that.

Should we ask the dealer to change the battery? Is it busted?

T

You don't really list where you live. But if you're really concerned you can pour coke (coca cola) over the terminals and scrub them with a copper brush to clean them.

They look ok to me. Just a bit of corrosion (like I said you don't list where you live at)

Thank you for the quick response.

I am living in Toronto, Canada. Does that have an affect on the battery?

The battery looked really corroded so I got a bit worried (and the fact that I had to jump start it once). Also, I thought I might get it changed by the dealer while I still can, rather than realizing that the battery sucks later on down the line.

I also told the dealer that I had to jump start the car. He tested it in the back and said it was fine.......

Since you said the dealership said its fine, just give it a good cleaning with a wire brush. Make sure to take the connectors off, and get inside the connectors.

Thanks for the replies! I went to the dealer today. He changed my battery for a brand new one!

Hopefully everything else goes fine (fingers crossed)

This incident is seriously making me consider taking the extended Honda PLUS comprehensive coverage (would cost me around $1500) which will cover me for three years. I have heard repairs can be costly.... (plus it covers us for road side/trip interruption etc - and covers non-powertrain items for which the initial 36000 miles coverage has expired) Any opinions?
