Accord 04 DX Timing Chain stretched
My father's 04 DX has been making a constant noise for about 8k miles and the honda dealership could not figure out what it was until now. The timing chain is stretched, causing for oil to be burned, but not too much. This means we would have to replace the timing chain which parts and labor is $1500. The car is currently at 152k miles and is fully paid off. And also, the head unit does not work just for a side note. I just wanted to get other's opinions on what I should do. Should we fix it or maybe sell it and buy another Accord? My mechanic suggests just drive it until the chain can go no more because it won't snap like a belt. Its running just fine now, and if I were to guess I'd say it could go at least 25k more miles without problems, but the mechanic says indefinite miles. Also is there anywhere else to get this service does for cheaper?

Re: Accord 04 DX Timing Chain stretched
If you keep driving it will eventually jump time, these are still interference engines.....bent valves and that are a bad thing. You would then be looking at pulling the head, fixing what is wrong and re-install along with a new timing chain.
Call around to shops the specialize in Honda's - see what they charge to the job. Then thing about the cost of that, condition of the car and compare that to car payments on a new one? Keep in mind what you would get for the car in the current condition.
