Default Accidentally overcharged 2006 Accord A/C unit

Ok, I accidentally overcharged my 2006 Accord A/C unit. I realize now that this is not as simple as the can makes it look. The gauge was initially reading add refrigerant. I had decided to fill it because on a 80 degree day it was barely getting cold. So I decided to charge it and within a matter of a few seconds the gauge was in the alert zone working it's way to the danger zone. Is there anything I can do to help relieve some of the pressure. Someone was telling me that I can let the unit run on a hot day for about a day and that will release some of the refrigerant. Any help would be appreciated.
