Default AC/Defrost Nearly Stalls Car

Hello,

I have an 05 Accord with the 2.4 VTEC. When ever the AC clutch engages my RPMs drop from about 900 to 500, shaking the car and nearly causing a stall. To compound this problem, by Accord is a manual transmission. So when I push the clutch to shift gears, if the AC clutch is also engaged, this causes difficulty steering. I have already replaced the idle air control valve, throttle position sensor, and have a brand new AC compressor. None of this fixed my problem. I also cleaned out the EGR valve, which helped slightly in that the RPM now drops to 500 when the AC engages, but then rises to about 600, but the shaking and trouble steering continues. Any suggestions?

I replaced the plugs about 6 months ago with NGK Iridium plug. I did the pcv at the same time.. Serp belt is about 1 year old. I just replaced the tensioner pulley as well. No codes. What else can you think of?

Your issues could be indicative of a lazy oxygen sensor. The ecu will enrich the mixture when the compressor engages. If the sensor is lazy it might be able to properly enrichen the mixture right. This would also correlate with the clutch switch causing the car to hesitate. Has the upstream sensor ever been replaced ?

I have not replaced with the up or down stream sensors. I did replace the cat a while ago though. Do you know what the specs should be? I can get a OBD2 reader and see what its putting out.

Sounds like the charge is low. Take it to a shop and have it checked.

I appreciate the thought. I replaced the AC Compressor and had it charged at a shop. The problem continued after having it properly charged.

you can backprobe the sensor and test the voltage, it should oscillate quickly from .10 to .90 volts after being warmed up
