Default 93 Octane

Well, I've read how the computer can tell if you are running premium gas in the 06 Accords and adjust the timing which equals more power and better gas mileage. I was just wondering what kind of gas mileage you guys are actually seeing? I've also heard this takes 3 tanks to take effect and if you put any regular gas back in it resets right then.

I had it at half a tank of regular and filled it up with premium then ran it down to half a tank and filled up again with premium. Then I ran the tank mostly empty and checked the gas mileage and got 35.4 mostly interstate driving with a little city but not a whole lot. Anyway this is the best I've seen. I usually get 34mpg sometimes mid to high 34mpgs but this it he first time I've actually seen over 35 it's sometimes pretty close but not usually over. I haven't even run 3 tanks through yet.

Another ? is I had another tank full after than so I was getting close to 3 tanks. I had someone else with me offer to pump the gas in and they started putting regular back in before I told them to stop. They put a total of $.09 so it's barely any at all. With gas being $3.69 will 9 cents of regular effect it? I was just curious it would reset it as I've heard if you put any regular in it will reset it and you will have to start over. I'm curious as 9 cents doesn't seem like enough to do much.

It's not that hard for me to get 30 mpg with my six cylinder Accord.

I usually fill up with 93 octane non-ethanol BP at a station in a non-metro area.

If I am trapped and have to use 93 octane in a metro area (ethanol) then I do not seem to be able to do better than 27-28 mpg.

The mileage that you are getting is the best I have ever heard of with a six cylinder Accord.

I get right at 30 running 87 in my 03, and have heard that premium in these cars is not necessary, but I have not tested the idea. If you went from 34 to 35, then you're not getting you money's worth, unless you do see value in better power (if indeed you do feel you have more power).

.90 of regular is nothing when you are filling up a whole tank-about a quart of gas with it being 4.00 now.

Like grandpa brought up, always make sure you not getting that ethanol mix stuff-it will hurt your mileage for sure.

</TD></TR></TABLE>I added it up and going from 34 to 35.4 is actually $4 less a tank and premium is $2 more a tank. So basically I am saving $2 a tank.

You'll add a surprising amount of power using 93 octane on a six cylinder six speed.

But you have to KEEP doing it. The first little ping from lower octane puts the computer back onto the default programme until you've used 93 octane again for weeks.

232 HP on a Dynojet is something like 260 SAE Net. Nothing done except the use of 93 octane.

One extra ping and you're back to the original flash programme.

So is premium not .20 more/gallon where you live? I guess not or it would cost you more than $2.00 more/tank to fill up.

Someone riding with me did the math and I'm not sure what they did as now that I go back and look at it the numbers seem off. Not the gas mileage it's correct as I've checked it for many many tanks myself and them and get the same numbers. It's just what I'm saving that seems to be off.

Well, wither way it's not gonna be more than a $3-$4.00 difference, so I think we are thinking too much.

Non-reformulated gasoline FTMFW. One time I drove up to my Grandpas, way up in the boonies about an hour south of Lake Superior. I got 31 mpg driving up there in my Integra, and 38 driving back, both while driving the same speed, and I even raced my engine both onramps while driving back. I wish I didn't live in the heart of a pretty populous city, with neither jobs driving near any place that could possibly have non-reformulated gas. Hopefully I can get 25 city in my new Accord v6. I averaged over 30 city in both my Integra and Civic, getting several mpg better than EPA. And with this car I don't have to floor it/rev the **** out of it to get it moving at the pace of soccer moms, because torque is very nice.
