7th gen V6 auto tranny external filter
Does anyone know anything about the filter in this illustration (#7) for the 03 V6 automatic transmission?
http://www.hondaautomotivepart...V6%29
And why there is no mention of this in the 03-05 Service Manual? Seems like they would cover the filter in the fluid change procedure????

It's not a filter. It's the oil warmer. ATF flows through the radiator via the oil warmer, then back to the A/T. However, it does have radiator-like filtration to keep junk from backflushing into the A/T.

I'm not talking about the warmer, which is #1 in the illustration. I'm talking about #7, which is described as an "element", and it goes into that coke can shaped object. Also, check out #22. It's called the "filter gasket". Sounds like #7 is a filter, to me.

I apologize for the assumption. Many people misunderstand the warmer.
I can tell you that in 6 years of automatic transmission market analysis, I've never seen a failure caused by the filter you're referring to. However, it wouldn't be a bad idea to replace it since it's inexpensive and easily accessible.

I just don't understand why there is NO MENTION of this filter in the Helm service manual. Maybe they don't think it ever needs to be changed, but there should be something describing what the filter is.
