2010 accord lx coupe 120 mph top speed WTF
I dont Own one but a good friend of mine does. He is confused cause his car wont go any faster than 120. I havent been in the car with him when he drove it that fast, and the few times I drove his car I havent been that fast, but He been compaining about it bogs down at that speed. He only has 9000 miles on the car and has taken good car of it the 2 years he has owned it. The dash said its capable of 160 it probaly wont go that fast but my 97 prelude used to get dam close when I owned one back in the day. So my question is has anybody else experenced this or knows why it wont go any faster? Is it some onboard program that just wont allow it? Is it the drive by wire system? Anybody got any info on this and how to fix this issue?

It's a big car, and that's probably as fast as the 4 cylinder engine can push it. The V6 engine should go 15-20mph faster than the I4. Neither of them are going to get up to 160mph.

i used to own honda civic 7 b4 buying acura tsx, on my civic i have hit 129mph without breaking any code which manufacture block to stop the car to hit full speed
so my point is accord should have gone over 120mph easily unless it got some problem(s)

An Accord is bigger, and built more for economy than a TSX, and much bigger and heavier than a Civic. The Accord is more "drag" limited than either of them.

your prelude got nowhere near 160...
if he has the I4... thats about right for the size and power of the car.
there is no issue.. if he wants high speeds, tell him to get a bike.

I don't really understand why they allow road going vehicles to go that fast to begin with.

^^^This is basically my thought my dx civic with 200,000 miles and a 1.5 motor goes faster than 120 and its mostly stock exept exaust. So im guessing its prolly like the govenor or rev limiter or something cause a theres just no way at all thats the full capability of that motor

Its been many years since I have owned a prelude but No it doesnt do 160 but I think 140 is the top speed on the dash and mine definatly moved past the last notch on the speedo. And I dont think him getting a bike will work He never rode anything thing on 2 wheels I keep trying to get him to ride with me

WRT (quoting you) "the dash [saying] it's capable of 160 [MPH]," your friend's 177hp LX wouldn't be capable of reaching 160 MPH if it were dropped from the Tacoma Bridge.

1) there is probably a rev limiter/speed limiter in the ECU that prevents the car from going faster than 120
2) as others have stated, for the 4-cyl in that car, given the size, shape, and weight of the car, that speed is about right...probably slower than 120, which brings me to
3) Honda speedos are notoriously inaccurate the higher they go...mine reads 65, but I'm going 60. If I'm going 80, I'm actually doing 74. And so on. Some are better than others, but those of you that said you passed your 140mph mark are deluding yourselves if you think you were going that fast on stock components.
4) I hope he was doing this on the track. If not, tell me where he lives so I can avoid driving in that area.

The ECU is programmed to limit the LX to approximately 115 MPH (the speedo's off) because the OEM tires on the LX are incapable of sustained speeds in excess of 115.

Re: 2010 accord lx coupe 120 mph top speed WTF
Im not sure about where other people live where I live highway traffic is going 100 mph legal or not. And if you have to pass them you gonna need 2 go faster. Where I live we have left side on and off ramps and in order to safely get on and off those you need 2 go faster than the people in the fast lane to get on and off. If yall ever been in maryland on HWY 695 getting on 95 going towards baltimore know when U get on it puts you off in the fast lane and you got less than 200 yards before that extra merge lane dissapears and if you no going at least 85 when you do the people in the fast lane gonna crash into you.
