Default 2009 EX-L Burning Oil

My 2009 EX-L (6 cal) has 112,000 miles on it. It has a new timing belt but is burning one quart every 1200 miles. I have to pay $600 (50%) to have the piston/rings job done. If I do this how much longer can I expect to operate this car? Or should I sell it now?

If the car has no other major issues, my opinion is the cost/benefit of spending $600 (paying 50% of the quote costs) is worth it if you want to keep it longer. It probably can double or even get close to tripling that mileage without much other major issues, if you've have and will be maintaining the car. I have 185K on a 2009 and it is still going strong.

I find it hard to believe that rings are burning oil at only 112k unless you constantly went 20k between oil changes using conventional oil.

Many 8th gen Accords (4 and 6 cylinders) and a few other Honda models had issues with oil consumption. Due to class actions lawsuits, Honda extended the warranty under certain conditions. However, whether due to time, mileage, etc. of conditions where Honda would change the affected piston oil control rings, many owners did not get covered.

Sounds like either the dealer or Honda corporate is just offering him
a discount instead of fully covering the service.
