2008 Maintenance Minder Light Vs. Maintenance with Mileage Intervals?
Hi guys, I'm new to this board and don't know much about cars. I have a 2008 Honda Accord EX Sedan, 4-Cyl. I have a little over 10,000 miles on the car and I got a oil change at about 7,000 miles (the maintenance minder light for oil never came on, I was just told by the dealer to bring it in at 7000 miles, which might have been a mistake). I called one dealership yesterday and they told me I should bring it in at 10,000 miles for service. Another dealer told me not to bring it in until the service minder light comes on for maintenance. So who's pulling my leg? The manual does not include any type of schedule with mileage intervals like most manuals do. So, does the 2008 Accord not need to be brought in for scheduled maintenace unless the maintenance minder light comes on? Thanks in advance guys.

My suggestion is not to take a chance for just an oil change. Most manufactuers say you can go 7000 miles on an oil change, but in the perfect conditions. 60 degrees, no dust, very little rain and perfect driving. Most lets just almost all do not fall in this catergory.
I would go with oil changes every 3k miles, its defintely worth the $25, for the peace of mind.
let me know if there is anything else i can help with.

MSchu I looked at my 08 manual as well and there is no where in that huge book where it says mileage to change the oil or even intervals, only the coding of looking A A1 A2 b b1 B2 services when that wrench comes on. Just says that when you get to 15% to change the oil......
jamminbyalias I just did 2000 miles on my car and it just turned to 80%...by that rate i should be at 8500 miles due for a change. hell no i am going to change my every 5k with Mobile 1 5w20 I think its worth it. I think every 5k for the oil and every 15k for the tranny oil and 30k for the rest.

I think I might have confused you guys a little. I understand that I probably need an oil change every 3000 miles or so, I'm probably due soon. But the dealership is telling me to bring it in for 10,000 mile maintenance, where they check the brakes, liquids, tires, etc. Thats around $150 bucks. Is this really necessary? Or should I only bring it in for service when the light comes on?

To be honest... its not necessary. Specially if you can do that stuff yourself.
HOWEVER, if you ever had a warrenty claim later... they would have that lack of service as reference. For myself and my 08, I don't really care... I can do my own maintenance.

The maintaice light comes on regardless of weather you need maintaince or not, its just set on a timmer. If you can check all your own stuff then no point of waistin money.

Everyone has their own idea of how long to go between oil changes. So you have to figure that one out on your own. Personally, I'm not going to wait 7,000 miles to change my oil. Dealerships will tell you different stories too, depending on how busy the service department is. Things like brakes, etc., need to be checked now and then for proper wear. If you are not mechanically inclined, or simply choose not to do this yourself, you have to pay someone else to do it for you. Otherwise, you take your chances, that lack of maintenance doesn't come back to bite you on the rear.

His 2008 "Maintenance Minder" actually keeps track of your driving habits, not just miles. How many times you start the engine. How many hours on the engine. Total revolutions on the engine, weighted by temperature. All that cool stuff.
If you want to change more often, you can still take advantage of that cool feature. Just change it when it reaches 50% or 40%; instead of waiting for 15%.
