Icon6 2008 Honda Accord lx

I have a 2008 Honda Accord Lx with approximately 31,000 miles. One of those
things that has to be serviced is replacement of the engine air filter which I
already located. Its just a matter of pulling it out from the housing with 3 latches without screws. Even if i remove the latches, the installed (old filter)
still won't come out because of the wiring harness tied with a tie wrap around it
connected to the air intake sensor. Is it necessary to disconnect the negative side of the battery before pulling out the sensor connector? Thanks

There is no need to disconnect the sensor connector or battery. Just unclip the 3 latches, you may have to move the upper housing a little away from the two guide tabs, then lift up the housing to access the filter. It only takes me a couple of minutes to change out the filter.

Refer to this service news to see the guide tabs.

I didn't know Honda went back to latches. My 06 I4 was still using screws.

A 3 sec job should not be 3 mins.

Haha. I like to clean out the bottom of the housing of any dirt, bugs, feathers, etc. that get in there before I put in the new filter.

I also don't disconnect the negative battery terminal and then reconnect to do the idle learn procedure if there appears to be nothing wrong with the way the car is running (e.g, gas consumption still steady, idle okay, etc.).

There really is not much to engine air filter or even air cabin filter changes for the 8th gen L4s.
