2007 Accord EX won't rev past 2800rpm
Hello everyone! Thank you very much in advance for any help or advice you can offer.
My accord EX 4-cylinder has suddenly started acting up. Oil is changed regularly and I maintain everything else pretty well. I just drove about 300 miles this past weekend without a problem at all.
Yesterday (Monday), we started out driving to New York from Florida. Today (Tuesday), the car started having an issue, that seemed to come out of nowhere, without any warning.
From a standstill, the car idles fine, but when I start to accelerate, it drives fine up to 2800 rpms, where it starts sputtering badly. It won't go past 2800 at all, even when I floor it. The car WILL drive smoothly up to 60-80mph, as long as I'm below 2800 rpms.
We stopped at an autozone and they scanned the CEL. First they saw o2 sensor, so I replaced the front one right there. That didnt clear the light, and it still had the problem, so I replaced the rear one. They also saw a code for oil pressure sensor, which I also replaced. Still didn't fix it! Finally they pulled a code for a vtec sensor of some sort. I believe there are 2 vtec sensors, but they couldnt find which one, or where it is on the motor, as their computer wasn't working.
The guy there also disconnected the battery and pulled some fuse, then put everything back together and it was driving perfect again! But then about 5 minutes later, back to the same thing.
Does this sound like a vtec sensor issue? If so, could you direct me to the general location of the sensor, or sensors, on the engine? We have to make it to a hotel in Maryland by a certain time, so we are back on the road. Driving smooth at 75mph, but still cant hit over 2800rpms. Thanks again!!!!

Also, looking on BKHondaParts I found an exploded view of the cylinder head, and 3 separate vtec parts.
VTEC Oil Control
VTEC Spool valve cover
and VTEC strainer assembly
Could one of these be the issue?

Well good news! We stopped at a Honda dealer and they scanned the codes again, and got us the right part. It was the vtec silenoid switch, honda part 37250-PNE-G01. $100 installed. Back on the road, driving smoothly. I wonder if this part going bad caused some emissions issues, giving us the bad o2 sensor CEL.
