Default 2007 Accord Door Sash Repair

I just bought a 2007 Accord 4Dr LX and the driver side door outer center sash is damaged, it looks like someone tried to put a screw driver between the window and sash then pry it open. I would imagine this resulted in a lot of broken glass. I popped the door panel off and it had definitely been opened before as the plastic liner showed signs of prior removal so I suspect the window is new.

This is my 4th Accord and it looks like with the 2003-2007 models the sash is no longer a separate piece but welded to the door and it's covered with a big piece of black vinyl tape. It also looks like that Tape is part 67366-SDC-A01.

I'm planning on peeling off the old tape, using Bondo to fill up the imperfections in the metal, sanding it smooth, and then just installing the new Tape back over it.

Does that sound about right? Is there anything I should be aware of when doing this?

Thanks

I completed the work last week if anyone cares. It's surprisingly easy but time consuming.

It took about 11 hours of labor but most of that was removing the old sash tape and watching paint dry. No special tools were needed, I spent about $40 on supplies.

Tools:
  • Philips screwdriver
  • Hammer
  • 8mm socket wrench
  • 2 C-clamps
  • 1/4 in pieces of scrap would
  • nylon pry bars
  • X-acto Knife or Razor

Supplies:
  • Small can of Bondo - $6
  • 110 and 220 grit sandpaper - $5
  • masking tape - $3
  • newspaper - Free
  • spray can of primer - $6
  • Official Honda Sash Tape - $15

Removing all of the exterior door parts and the interior door panel requires a Philips screwdriver, an 8mm socket, and nylon pry bars. Rough body work was done using a hammer, c-clamps, and some wood scraps. Removing the old Sash Tape was the most time consuming step requiring patience and a lot of time peeling with the occasional scraping from an X-acto knife. I sanded down the metal with 110 grit sandpaper, Bondoed the sash up, and then sanded it smooth with 220 git sandpaper. I masked everything I didn't want painted in tape and newspaper and threw a tarp over the rest of the car just in case. I applied 3 coats of primer, lightly sanding after each had fully dried (this took forever because of the temperature). I then applied the new Sash Tape which uses a 3M adhesive called Complex that can be removed and reapplied multiple times without damage to the car or the tape. I then reassembled the door.
