2007 Accord Leaking Oil? Help please....
2007 EX 4-cy.
I changed my oil tonight after it reached 0% and drained only 2.5 qt (started with 4.5 qt). The last several changes I've noticed a lot of oil coating the rear side of the engine. Today it appeared a little worse, with a drip present on the oil filter and some plug above it. Have not noticed any oil spots in the driveway at anytime, though.
A little history is that I have been needing to change the catalytic converter for a long time.... years... and never did because the CEL would light up every now and then, but then go off and not show up for months. I just read where a failed converter could result in a backpressure on the engine. Could this backpressure be causing oil to burst be pushed out of some seal someplace? The car has been running fine, and it sounds fine except for a little raspy down by the converter.
I ordered a new direct fit converter from O'Reilly and it will be in and on tomorrow. Do you think I would be fine to just watch how much oil consumption I have between now and the next change to see if this fixes the issue? Or should I have the engine checked someplace for other problems?

I don't think the catalytic converter has anything to do with the oil leak. Watch some Scotty Kilmer YouTube videos. You may have a leaky seal, or you may be burning oil, which would cause a cat to clog up, but it wouldn't take years to clog it. If it is a leaky seal it would cost a bundle to have it replaced, but you can try Scotty Kilmer's trick of adding a bottle of AT-205 to the engine oil and see if it will rejuvenate the seal. You can get it on Amazon. It has been around a long time. Scotty's video is "Fixing oil seal leaks fast". I put it in my oil as a preventive measure. If you can trace the oil back to its source it may be something different. In Scotty's video "Finding and Fixing Car Oil Leaks" he recommends putting UV dye in the oil and using goggle and a light to see where the leak is coming from. Sometimes it is from the oil pressure sending unit. Sometimes the back of the valve cover.

You may consult a mechanic to check for oil leak ... beneath you your engine ... un tightened bolt for example ... or seal for your oil pan. Visual check may be enough. I doubt if there is any link between your catalyst converter and engine oil leak.
