Default 2006 Accord won't start, Ive read all the threads and tried several fixes.

Hey guys, I hate bugging other people with bar problems but I have read everything on here, google and watched hours of youtube videos and have tried them all.

Its an 06 Honda Accord LX V6 and it never had any problems until it quit starting last week. Now it won't ever start with one exception the day after it quit, that morning the first time I cranked it it started right up. I shut it off and it hasn't started since.

Like many other people with the intermittent start problem when I go to start the car everything acts normal at the different positions of turning the key. How ever it won't crank at all, nor does it try. There is no clicking noise, moving the shifter doesn't help so everything people have said in other threads led me to replace the ignition switch. That didn't change anything at all. The fuses all look good. I have cleaned and checked the battery and cables as well as the starters cables. I hear the faint click in the dash when I shift between gears so I think the car is recognizing what gear it is in ok ( I read that was a problem in older accords.) The batteries in the keys are good, I tried all three factory keys. Im at a loss. I have a full parts car available but I don't even know what to try next.

I would greatly appreciate your advice and experiences! Thanks guys.

I had some one tap on the starter and solenoid with a ball pin hammer while I tried to start it and nothing happened. It doesn't click like a bad starter usually does. Could it still be the starter any way?

Check for voltage at the solenoid while turning the key to the crank position. If you have voltage at this point, replace the starter.

Fixed it!

8mm, 10mm, 17mm sockets fyi.

That was a great idea! I checked it and it was getting 10.5 volts to the solenoid when trying to crank. So I bought a used starter (found it at scrap yard using carparts.com for $35) and replaced it this morning. Started right up.

I did notice something odd when I pulled the old one out though. The gear that pushes out and springs back inside the starter, it was stuck out on the old starter.

I had to remove the radiator (10mm) to get my ratchet down to the bottom bolt on the starter(17mm) and beat on the ratchet with a trailer hitch to get it to break loose. lol.

This is how it should be.

This is how it was when I removed it. I had to tap on it with pliers then it popped back in and every thing seemed normal after ward. (Still replaced it)

Thank you all for your help!

Glad you figured it out.If you took your solenoid apart you would find that the contact disc on the plunger is burnt from arcing where it contacts the battery and the starter posts. One side had arced badly enough to weld the two parts together thus holding the starter drive in the engaged position.
