2003 Honda Accord EX V6 intermittent flashing d4, no cel
Hello everyone, first time posting. My Accord EX V6 has 196,000 miles and d4 started blinking intermittently about 3000 miles back. Took to local Autozone and Orielly several times for scan but no codes were produced, no cel. Last week, drving home, 35mph, engine downshifts to first and wouldn't accelerate or shift out. Pulled over, restarted car, started moving and happened again. Drove another 3 miles home and parked. Now, transmission. makes loud clunk when shifting to reverse and barely backs up or moves forward when shifting to drive. Mechanic says filter is clogged but won't know anything for sure until tear down since no codes, cel, etc. Will take approx 1 week to repair and anywhere from $1100+ in parts and labor and of course no warranty coverage. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Have you checked transmission fluid level? (should be checked with engine OFF, on level ground). So when u shift it into R or D, is it slipping when u apply the gas?
Honda autos mated to the F/H series were plagued by issues for several years in the 90's and early 2000's. Before spending 1100 on a trans repair, you might take it to a transmission specialist for further diagnostics. Probably will cost you 70-120 depending on labor rates but definitely worth it vs spending 1100+ on a repair when it could be something as simple as shift solenoids or something of that nature... Just my $0.02

Thank you for replying. Fluid does need changing he said, but isn't completely terrible. Not sure if transmission is "slipping" but won't change out past firs it seems. It just barely moves forward or in reverse and engine revs high.

Your transmission is likely toast, but if the D4 light was flashing, there should be a transmission code stored.
