Strange rubbing noise
I have a 2006 accord sedan 4cyl. with 73k miles. I hear a quick rubbing noise coming from the front of the car while rolling forward or backwards at very slow speeds. I hear nothing at high speeds. For example, when I first back my car out of the garage at less than 2 miles per hour I hear this quick rubbing noise that I think is coming from the passanger front of the car. Cannot reproduce this sound all the time. I have looked under the car observe nothing unusual. Other than this stange rubbing noise car drives and sounds perfect. Sometimes I hear this unusual rubbing noise while pulling forward after car has been parked. This noise is quick, but noticeable. All responses appreciated.

Re: Strange rubbing noise
ok, I'll bite. You are sure this is not rust on the rotors....humid conditions will cause rust to form quicker than you think? Are you dragging the brake when this happens?

Re: Strange rubbing noise
No rust. Brakes not dragging. Braking while driving is excellent. Makes rubbing noise without brakes applied.

Ok, was just trying to figure out how you are only going 2mph without your foot on the brake pedal....if an auto trans you had to press the pedal to get it into D4 or R. If a manual trans then try this without touching the brakes.
Noises are hard to describe in words....is this like a metal sound or a rubber type sound?

Re: Strange rubbing noise
I have an automatic. Yes of course I have to put my foot on the brake pedal to shift into neural, reverse, or drive. The rubbing noise is heared when i release my foot off the brake pedal and the car starts to roll slowly. Noise sounds like rubber agaist plastic. I'm stumped!

Re: Strange buzzing noise
The strange pumping (rubbing noise) is coming from the ABS device under the hood on the passenger side. It pumps only once when I first start the car and move forward or backward in or out of gear. It makes this rubbing (pumping sound) EVERY time I start the car and move forward or backward. Sound only lasts for 1 second. No ABS light on dash. Car runs and brakes normal. Should I be concerned? Anbody else seen this situation before?

Re: Strange rubbing noise
Issue is resolved. The sound is coming from the ABS conducting a self test according to a Honda shop foreman who test drove my car today. And yes it also can make the buzzing noise going in reverse. Thanks to all who responded.
