Default 2003 Accord EX doors won't lock

Hello,

I am new to this forum and I have a question for the Honda experts. Hopefully, someone can help me out with this.

Starting last month, my doors will no longer lock, neither with the key fob nor with the rocker switch on the door handle. I can only lock the car manually. At first, it was a sporatic occurance, but now it just won't lock. Also, when all the doors are closed, the dome light stays on.

I don't know if this is related, but a few months ago I had the driver's door window motor repaired. It previously was very slow and wouldn't roll up all the way. Then, last week, I brought the car back into the Honda dealership to check out this door locking problem. They said it was a faulty master switch problem and they installed a new one, but it didn't solve the problem.

I have seen similar threads on this forum, so I know someone must know how to fix this. Also, my issue is just with locking. The unlocking mechanism works fine. Could there be a faulty door switch that is telling the car that a door is still open? I hope someone has a solution - it stinks having to manually lock the doors all the time.

Thanks.

Thanks. How do I figure out which door is the problem?

2dr or 4 dr? its rare to have all door lock actuators go out at the same time but i guess it can happen..if you try to lock and unlock the doors by using the drivers master switch you can usually put your ear up to the door and here the doors tryings to operate..if you can't here all doors trying to operate it could be something else maybe a multiplex control unit

I have 4 Door. When I press lock on the driver or passenger switch, I don't hear anything. Since the doors all unlock successfully, does that mean the actuators are ok? Thanks for the multiplex suggestion too. What are the symptoms if the multiplex has stopped working? Could that cause the dome lights to stay on?

since they replaced the drivers master switch already im gonna assume that is working fine but if nothing happens when you press the lock and unlock switch its something else..like i said before its really rare to have ALL actuators go out all at once..i suggest if you are trying to fix it yourself to find yourself a ETM (electrical troubleshooting manual) and look at the diagram for power door locks..at this point i would assume ALL actuators are working fine and drivers master switch is working fine..you could be having a bad input to the micu or a bad output from the micu to the actuators

Thanks for your help. I will try to find an ETM somewhere to troubleshoot this.

The most interesting thing is that this wasn't a sudden thing. It kind of waxed and wained for a month or so. I did add an aftermarket radio a couple months ago, but the locks worked fine for a few weeks afterward. But now I'm thinking maybe the two are related. I did a fair amount of splicing, so could this be due to a bad connection or ground?

The tough thing about electrical issues is that they're so difficult (and expensive) to troubleshoot. I appreciate your input and I hope to figure this out soon.

it could be..thats why you need an etm to figure out if some of the wires you spliced are related to the door locks or dome light..electrical can be a nightmare

I found this last night. Does anyone know about the MICU? From this Honda Tech Bulletin, it sounds like maybe my MICU may be an issue. Is this something I can fix myself or will I need to bring it to the dealership?

only way to find out if it IS the MICU is to have a dealership take a look at it to confirm it is bad otherwise you will just be throwing parts are it and pray it fixes it

If you push down on the driver's door lock manualy, will all the doors lock? If they do, I think your driver's door actuator is bad. I think all the other doors operate according to the driver's door. If you push the driver's door lock down, and the other 3 doors don't lock, you either have a problem with the master switch or the multiplex.
If the door closed switch was not working, you would see the door open indicator in the speedo cluster. If the door open indicator is not showing the driver's door open, I would look for the problem in the dome light switch. You do know there are three different settings for the dome light (door, on, off). If you have the switch set to on, it will not go off, when you close the door. Good luck

Thanks for the info. Unfortunately, when I push down the drivers door lock, none of the others go down. Also, when switched to DOOR, my dome light stays on and doesn't turn off when all the doors are closed. I'm starting to think that the MICU is bad and unfortunately, a trip to the dealership looks inevitable. I'm regretting the decision to put in an aftermarket stereo now. Is there any way to tell if that was to blame? The locks worked fine for a few weeks after the install.

Thanks for all the great tips. Everyone's been really helpful.

the aftermarket stereo COULD be the blame for the issues you r having..if you installed the stereo yourself try removing the stereo and see if that fixes anything..if that doesnt then the problem lies elsewhere

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking too. Darn. It's been nice having Sirius, Aux in, and Bluetooth though...

I got pratically the same problem on my 99 accord coupe and only the passenger side lock doesn't work with the switch or remote except for maybe 1/50 times. I tried the trick i was told to try, with the windshield wiper 10 second thing and everything worked fine immediately, then after a few more tests it stopped working and eventually the driver door locked by itself. Twice before (recently) my car has locked itself on me and idk if its related by my "maintenance req'd" light flashes when I first start my car and my 3rd break light mysteriously stopped working even after I replaced the bulb. Any help please?
