2003 Accord AC Issue - Confirm Clutch Stator Diagnosis
I have a 4 door 4 cylinder 2003 Honda Accord that has an air conditioning issue. In coolish temperatures, the AC works fine. The higher the ambient temp, the less the AC works. Here is what I have done.
- Checked the refrigerant level when the compressor is working. It is fine, the same as my other Accord.
- Noted that when the AC seems to fail, the clutch is not engaged.
- Noted that when the AC seems to fail, the AC condenser fans still runs.
- Checked that the AC clutch relay is not an issue. I replaced it for $5 just in case.
- Jumpered the AC clutch relay when it is cool out and it engages.
- Jumpered the AC clutch relay when it is warm outside, with the engine very warm, while the AC is not working, and the clutch does NOT engage.
I believe the clutch stator is by far the most likely culprit.
Do you agree?
