Default 04 Accord - DTC P1457/P0443

Hi Everyone,

I am new to this great forum and resource.

I have a v4 04 Accord Coupe with some EVAP trouble codes. The current codes are 1457 and 0443.

Originally I had codes 1459 and 1457. I ordered a new canister assy (17011-SDA-A00) and had my mechanic install it. That killed code 1459. The MIL came back on a few day later and I brought it back in. The 1457 was still there and now he has a new friend 0443.

At first we were thinking the ftp sensor might be shot, but, decided to smoke it and see what happened. We do have a leak under the car near the top part of the gas tank. So we know now it's not the sensor. Any thoughts?

I had a talk with the head parts guy at my local dealer he printed me out the fuel tank diagram. He thinks it might be the gasket on top of the fuel pump (#39 on the diagram if anyone has it handy) since the canister assy is new and not leaking. He says the only way to know for sure though is to do a pressure test on the tank, which I am having done next week by my mechanic.

In my basic research so far, I see that a common culprit for 0443 is the purge valve (solenoid), but, the purge valve is under the hood correct? And wouldn't that have leak too when we smoked it? It didn't the only leak was under the car. Is there more than one purge valve and could it go by another name?

Ok, Jedi Masters of the Honda forum what do you have for me?

Thank a lot in advance.

I would take it to the dealership and do advance diagnose on this EVAP leak test.

The purge valve is under the hood. It could also be the 2-way/bypass solenoid, the canister shutoff valve, or any of the hoses- all of which are under the car. It could even be a short in the system- although I doubt it considering you already found a leak with the smoke.

To cause a P0443, there has to be a problem with the purge control circuit, not necessarily the valve. I would test the solenoid first though.

Thanks for the input guys.

Laxlong, you suggest testing the purge control solenoid, meaning the "purge valve" under the hood correct? The mechanic is focusing in on that, as 1457 (low purge flow) has been there all along and wasn't killed by replacing the canister assy.

I have also heard of the 2 way/bypass valve (solenoid) leaking as well. Does anyone know the official name that Honda gives to this part? I can't find it on any of the Honda parts diagrams. At least not with the name 2 way or bypass.

Thanks for all the help.
