03 Accord only 25mpg?
I am looking to but a Honda..... Job change....... More driving........ Anyway I was talking with a gal who had an 03 Accord 4cly. auto..... she said the best mileage she could get was 25MPG...... I asked about the last tune-up .... but she sold it ... end of discussion.
What is typical mileage? I wonder if I should be looking at Civics?
Thanks
Rick

city 25 maybe probably thats a mixed number. I get 22-24 city/mixed, lot of short trips to drop kids off. 32-36 straight hwy. been told the hwy number is very good closer to 30 for most people. good luck.

IMO the best gas car if you are looking for pure mileage is a Corolla. Diesel VW's and hybrids are better, but the Corolla will easily get over 40 in the HWY. Civics don't don't do that--at least all the ones I've been in.

if youre looking for best mileage then go with a civic over an accord.. my 04' 4cyl gets 23-25 avg, decent highway but like 17 city and nobody seems to be able to figure out why

i feel as if i've been getting crappy gas mileage to my honda as well, thinking that the 2005 accord i own gets amazing gas mileage when i should have gotten a jetta or a civic for that matter..and what's worse is my car's automatic with the 2.4L 4cyl.

I had an 03 v6 accord and averaged around 20-24 city and 27-32 highway depending on how I drove. I'd say my all around average while I owned it was at least 25. Only thing I can think is that a 4cyl has less power so you're into the gas more. I had a 1994 accord and the 03 feels so much heavier - I don't think the 4cyl motor has gained as much power as the newer gen body has gained weight.

I just bought a 2005 4cyl auto and after the first tank, I averaged 25.2mpg with 100% city driving like a grandma (no offense to any grandma's on the intraweb!). I was a little more leadfoot-ish on the second tank and still got right at 24mpg with all city driving. I am about to take it on a road trip to New Orleans from Memphis so I will post the mpg after a few tanks of 100% hwy.
I have no idea why so many people are experiencing bad mpg. The gas stations around here have up to 10% ethanol, so thats not the case for me. Also, I owned a 2002 Accord SE and from what I remember, it got great gas mileage also.

When my wife drives our 06 Accord, it seems like we need gas often. When I drive it, it uses gas almost like a Civic.
As Accord get's bigger and heavier, it's harder to reach that EPA number IMO. Where as with the Civic (at least older gens) it's lighter and smaller, I can even get better than EPA numbers without really trying.
There are a few threads about how people are a bit disappointed about late gen Accord's MPG. And I do agree.
If you don't need the extra room, get the Civic for better (more consistant) MPG.

my '04 4cyl ex gets about 280~300 to the tank until light comes on. thats about 25mpg. thats mostly city driving though. if it was all highway I can get up to 350 until light comes on. so overall 25~27mpg.
34mpg highway my ***.
