Default New Honda Owner -- 2018 Accord EX Sedan

For the first time in my life, I am an owner of a new Honda Accord EX sedan. I just purchased it today and drove it home. I was pretty much a "Nissan guy" for much of my adult life, but it was time to make a change. After a 1970 Datsun 510 sedan, a 1985 Stanza (mom's car), a 1989 Maxima (also my mom's car), a 1990 Sentra, 1987 Pulsar (was wife's car), 1995 Maxima (also was wife's car), 2002 Sentra and a 2015 Altima (which I sold yesterday).....it was time for a change. My nephew has a 1999 CR-V, which still runs great and my girlfriend owns a 2017 CR-V that is a wonderful vehicle.

I had considered another Altima - which was not a bad car by any stretch; but the Accord was head and shoulders above its competitors. Nissan has stagnated, while Mazda, Honda and Toyota have continued to improve over the past few years. I almost bought a Civic sedan a few years back, but chose the 2015 Altima because it was larger inside. Time to up the ante a bit, though, and pull the trigger on the Accord.

I hope to learn a lot from other members here and share experiences of owning these good cars.

Thanks for the welcome message!

I am just about to turn 1400 miles and it is performing well. My gas mileage is decent (32 to 35 mpg) for a car that is not quite "broken in" yet. The car is performing well (for a 1.5L engine), has great acceleration and there is ZERO turbo lag. The 2018 Accord 1.5L is rated at 192 hp, which is excellent. (My 2015 Altima with a 2.5L had only 185 ponies on tap. )

Nissan's CVT has gotten a lot of bad press lately, but Honda seems to have done better in that department. My Altima's CVT never gave me any trouble, but more than a few other owners have had theirs replaced way too early in the car's life. I'll keep my fingers crossed, but my dealer threw in a 7yr/100k powertrain warranty on my Accord......some peace of mind.

Fit and finish is good and the car looks beautiful after a trip to the car wash. I have put one coat of wax on it and the white paint shines like a diamond!

The oil life meter says "90 percent" - but ain't now way I am going to go over 10,000 miles before I change it. I will likely do it at 3,500 to 4,000 miles or so - especially since it is the "break-in" oil. Yeah, that may seem too soon for most folks - but I do my own oil changes with Mobil-1 full synthetic and have had a good track record by doing that.

Hey brother glad you're enjoying the whip!! Highly advise that you wait until the maintenance minder gets to 15% especially on that first oil change. The engine oil from the factory comes with extra break-in additives!!

I have a '17 Accord w/1600 miles on it. I changed the oil at 1K cause the car sat on the dealers lot since 4/17. I put dino oil back in until the 3K mark which at that time I will also be putting in Mobil 1. I was told by the dealer that Honda doesn't put in break-in oil from the factory, but they use a lot of moly during the assembly process. I too will not go past 4K miles on a oil change. Stick to 3-4K mile oil changes and you will be fine and engine will last a long time. Oil life meters are a joke!

I agree the oil life meters are somewhat of a joke but changing fully synthetic motor oil every 3-4k miles is a waste of money and time. you're good for at least 8-10k miles.
