Intermediate Shaft
 
2014 Accord LX

Dealer is claiming that with 40,000 my intermediate shaft is cracked. What is the intermediate shaft? Is this part of the drive train? Does it make sense that at 40,000 miles, something so expensive would already need to be replaced?

Intermediate shaft is part of the CV axles. Its weird that it will be cracked, did you hit something? Here is a diagram if they are talking about this... #12

It connects the end of the steering column to the rack and pinion gear box and is used to eliminate torque sheer.
