Re: wiper relay

There is an intermittent wiper relay located "under" the underhood relay box. The wire colors are Blu/Wht, Blu/Wht, Grn/Red and Blk.

The Integrated Control Unit is located as part of the underdash fuse/relay box. It is that larger rectangular box somewhat in the middle of it.

Re: wiper relay

which one do you think would go bad first. i turned my wipers on when they were frozen down and now they dont work. i think i should check the relay first. and how can i test if the box is bad

Re: wiper relay

1. Did you check the No. 6 fuse (30A) in the underdash fuse box?
2. If the fuse is okay, the wiper motors may have gotten damaged when you applied power and they were frozen. I would check if there is power at the connector to the wiper motor with a test light or multi-meter. If you get power, then it indicates it may be the motors.
3. It also could be a corroded wire somewhere under the hood, near the intermittent wiper relay. The relay is not in the underhood relay box; but, should be directly under it, near the front left corner.

can you see it without taking the fusebox out

Re: wiper relay

You should probably be getting more power at the connector for the wiper motors.

To test the motor, you can apply battery power to the terminals and see if they run. If you can take a picture of the motor connector (wiper motor side) with the terminals and post it, I can mark the terminals to tests.

The intermittent wiper relay should be visible without taking the fuse/relay box out. If you take a picture of the underhood relay box, I can look for it and mark it for you.

Re: wiper relay

It may not be your wiper motors, since you said you were only getting 7.3 volts. Start checking the wiring and ground connections. It may be the wiring or can even turn out to the be the switch.

Re: wiper relay

what color wires do i test the motor. and is the control unit inside brown. thanks for all the help

Re: wiper relay

To test wiper motor:

1. Disconnect the electrical connector.
2. On the motor side connector:

Low speed: battery positive to the Grn/Blk terminal and negative to Blu terminal.

Hi speed: battery positive to Grn/Blk terminal and negative to Blu/Yel terminal.

3. If motor fails to runs smoothly, it may need to be replaced.

For the integrated control unit, some may be different color; but, it is the larger rectangular unit in the underdash fuse box.

Like I said in my previous post, it may not be the motor, as you said there was only 7.5 volts before the motor.

No problem, glad to help. Hopefully, you'll be able to pin down what the problem is.

Re: wiper relay

i am not getting any power to the relay. do you think it is the switch or the control unit. i tested the motor and it works

Re: wiper relay

1. Does the washer fluid spray? If no or little fluid, check the ground, as it can affect both washer and wiper. The ground should be located hidden behind the washer fluid reservoir.

2. You probably checked the wiring? It may be the switch. I kind of doubt it is the integrated control unit.
