i think your problem is in the distubitor, i guess there is moisture build up when u in hot area and get into the "ignitor" cause it to malfuntion. try to chek for broken distubitor seal and any physical damage to it.

it might be that...i too lived in a hot area...and had a 93ACCORD and at times..i had a hard time starting it up...i was told that the heat affects the battery...at times evaporating its water and whatever else...and it makes it harder to start...just a suggestion...it might be a mechanical problem too...

That's a good description of a bad main relay. Does it have spark when it's acting up? How about fuel presure?

Classic main relay symptoms.
Listen for the fuel pump running for about 2 seconds when the ignition is first turned on. If you don't hear it and you have a no-start condition, the main relay is most likely the cause.

yup it's your MAIN RELAY!
i had this propblem about 8 months ago in my 93 accord. If it's too hot or too cold out the car wouldn't start. But after about 30 mintues i tried starting it agian & the problem went away. It comes back & fourth.

Yeah... It's the fuel relay... Here in Hawaii, especially when it's humid, my Accord will not start.... Hondas are notorious for this (from what I'm told)- I replaced mine
couple years back... It's working fine now.... When I park, I try to look for a shady area to reduce the interior temperature (to be on the safe side)...

If I remember correctly, the relay is located somewhere under the dashboard (nearest to the driver-side airvent)... Hope this helps....

Is it ever not humid in Hawaii?

It's only humid when there's no wind (sun evaporates surrounding Pacific Ocean- thus creating a "moist"-like,"baking" atmosphere when there's no wind.), or there's a storm approaching the Islands.... 90% of the time, we have "trade winds" that keep the outdoor temperature around the mid-80's (but it's still hot, not humid, enough for my Accord to not start if I park it in the sun ). Typical tropical weather.....

My bad for going off-subject....

main relay is common thing... had to change one in my old car when I thought I had killed a fuel pump... needless to say is was ok after the relay change.

this may sound like a really stupid question, but when everybody refers to main relay which relay is that and where is it located in for say a 91 accord?

The PGM-FI main relay is under the dash next to the steering column, and above the cruise contrl unit.

no I figuered that as much as people talk about the main relay that maybe we should be more specific about which one. Thank you for clearing that up for me at least.

So I have a 1976 Honda Civic CVCC Hondamatic with the same problem.

It ALWAYS starts up fine, unless it's hot outside & even then it's intermittent. Usually happens after I've driven someplace, parked for a couple hours then go back to start the car. When it does this it does not get fuel to the carb. This NEVER happens in the winter - it only happens when it's hot out.

I replaced the main relay, still happens. When I turn the ignition on I do hear the fuel pump going, but I don't smell any gas in the carb. Should I go ahead and replace the fuel pump? Anything else? Nothing is terrible expensive in this car & I keep getting stuck somewhere, so I don't really care about doing process of elimination, I'd rather just replace anything that COULD be causing this problem.

Any advice would be VERY welcome & I promise to follow up with whatever the resolution is!

Thanks!

Rob
