Default whistling after cold air install??

-My friend recently installed a AEM cold air intake on his 99' Accord, I think it has a f23 not really sure... any way, now when you rev the engine, it makes a whistling sound at about half throttle, it is fairly loud when the car is moving but not that loud when it is sitting still. It sounds like it is coming from the throttle body or some where around there... it is annoying and he wants it to go away any suggestions?

On my 92 (f22a1), I put a cone filter on the stock pipe (just removed the airbox and tubing, left the resonator for easy reinstallation at emissions time) and it does the exact same thing.

Less than half throttle approximately - quiet as stock
Half throttle - whistling
Half to WOT - loud and sounds nice, too bad it's not as quick as it sounds

I think he'll just have to deal with it. You get used to it

Yeah man all the 6gen's pretty much do that. Mine does that too. On all the accord forums it's a running joke. It's comming from the throttle body.

Its normal. Throttle plate acts like a whistle. Its just there to remind you youre getting more air flow to your engine.

removed resonator, and the intake pipe is now smooth and nice, no more curve rubber piece to resonate the noise.

it's no biggie tho'

Alright, let me educate you guys on this as well on here. To get rid of the "whistling" effect when you put on an aftermarket intake bypassing the stock resonators is to adjust your idle adjust valve. The idle adjust valve **** is located on the throttle body and you turn it loose with a flat-head screwdriver. Turn it one turn and you'll notice that the whistling happens at a higher RPM and less than before. Turn it a few more turns and it'll go away.

The drawback is that your car's engine response and torque/horsepower curve will be affected. After having done this for close to a year with my AEM CAI, I can say that raising the idle adjust valve to get rid of the whistling gives more low-end power. But I lose a bit of high-end power. It's probably because loosening the idle adjust valve lets in more air at idle which allows me to have more air at lower RPM's. So you guys can do this experiment yourselves. The idle RPM hardly has changed from before and your intake note will change to a deeper growl as well. If you haven't tried it before, it's a tuner's trick to get a bit more low end and change the intake sound (this will also affect gas mileage and the power curve). Try it and let me know.

i feel like a noob now, but where exactly is the resonator? i unhooked some thing that as beside the airbox/battery... that had some intake tubes hooked to it, and one vac line, and also one electrical connector... but from what i read here it sounds like the resonator is inside the rubber air tube from the throttle body? sorry to hijack thread, but i just had this thought.........

when my roomate did the Skunk2 intake manifold swap he got a really loud *** whistleing noise at like 30% throttle. He didnt get any faster because he didnt give more fuel, he actually got slower.
