Default F22A1 HP UPGRADE

Does anybody know or heard of how much an Accord F22A1 engine HP can be built up to? You know, if you were to port/ polish, bore out, add high compression pistons & bump stick, cam gear, MSD ignition, everything! Assuming of course that it is running NA. Right now im more concerned running NA... well at least for now. Is it possible to reach 200 or more HP? Let me know somebody, thanks.

you can do whatever the heck you want to them.

lots of options, and they make great power.

Bisi Ezeroiha <=== that is probably spelled wrong, as I ALWAYS spell it wrong

Anyway, he is currently making just under 400HP naturally aspirated, on a heavily modified version of this engine. I have a friend who is doing a full build on one right now, that should be getting assembled here in the next couple weeks. He is expecting to make over 250WHP, so almost 300 at the crank.

For a couple hundred bucks, and some searching, you can get another 20-30HP, and have a mucher more usable powerband, and more low end to boot.

I would try to find the exhaust manifold from a 1990-1991 Accord EX or SE, and put that on your car for starters. If you want a FEW HP more HP, you could get an aftermarket header. You can also either upgrade to a better stock exhaust, have one made, or get a full catback exhaust. I would recommend a high flow cat, especially if you have a lot of miles. I noticed a nice improvement with a DC Sports header, RS*R catback and a Carsound high flow cat.

Then I would recommend an F22A6 intake manifold, with an H23 or H22 plenum and throttle body swapped onto it. The F22A6 is the engine in the 1992-1993 Accord EX and the 1991 and 1993 SE. It was also available in some of the wagons, namely the EX.

This manifold will require the PT6 ECU from the car the intake manifold came from in order to work correctly.

If you include a camshaft from Delta Cam which runs about $110, you can conceivably be making 20-30 WHP more than stock. Most of the stuff can be found in a junkyard in good condition for cheap.

I will have better low end power, better high end power, and should pull cleanly to about 6500RPM.

Other than that, it depends how much you want to spend.

Here are a few tips.

If you decide to work the head, it is mostly restrictive in the exhaust ports. You could do a poor man's port and polish on the exhaust side only, and you would probably get at least 70-80% of the total gain.

They are also cam limited. Honda put a small cam. With enough cam, they will make all kinds of power, as long as the intake and the exhaust can keep up.

If you need more specific info, or have any questions, http://www.bisimoto.com has a lot of stuff available for our engines, and he knows TONS about the F22. He is the guy making about 400HP in one.
