When to add UV dye to oil?
Ok, I have been looking for a slow engien oil leak for awhile. Pressure washed the engien and still can't find it. I got some UV dye and the black light. Oil in'99 Accord Ex 5-sepeed is pretty dirty it is 1,000 over due. (was witing to find the leak first before change). Should I just add the dye to the old oil and run for a few miles OR is it a better idea to change the oil in teh car add the dye, and see where the leak is seeping out over the next 4,000 miles?

Personally, I'd change the oil and add the dye. The dye (most of them) will do no harm to the engine vs not changing the oil which will. When changing the oil and adding the dye clean it one more time. Then drive and look.....

Thanks thats what I will do. Thinking since it is a such a slow leak. 1/2 qt in 3,000 miles. It will take awhile to show up anyway!!
