Vtec f22b1 head swap onto f22b2 non vtec block help
Hi all,
I've finally gotten around to getting my parts and money right to get this swap done.
The reason behind this is because i want to go turbo, and i need to replace my headgasket and put in head studs so i figured why not go vtec too.
I've read this thread many times- http://www.accordinglydone.com/forum...ad.php?t=10214 (it seems at the moment its down)
and im wondering if anyone on this site has attempted this? I pulled a vtec head off a parts car and got the intake manifold with it, as well as the distributor. I also got the ecu.
Also i got all new belts and tensioners along with a new water pump and all the seals for doing a timing belt. I am also going to replace all the other seals that are going to be associated with this.
Now, I know the blocks are the same, and there are no oil passages that need to be blocked off or unblocked.
The heads though, im curious about because they have different distributors. Can i use my non vtec one with no issues? Or do i need to use the EX one? If i need the ex one how do i know its complete with the ignitor and coil?
Next is wiring in vtec.. do i just follow the directions on the other site? Repin my ecu and add the wires he says to do?
Is there anything else i need to know about? I hope this thread will help others, so when i do everything im going to take pictures and write down things that i find.

Make sure to remove the oil control thing in the block so it can get enough oil for vtec. Thread a 10mm bolt it and it will pull out

OBD1 (94-95) F22B1 & 2 engines had the CKP CYP and TDC sensors located in the distributor. The OBD2 (96-97) F22B1 & 2 engines had the TDC and CKP sensors mounted behind the crank pulley on the oil pump housing and only the CYP sensor in the distributor.
You need to pick an OBD and use all the components that match. What year is your chassis/wire harness?

Well i ment, the block of the f22b2 doesn't even have a crankshaft sensor, but the f22b1 has one, the f22b2 came off a 94 honda accord lx, and the f22b1 came off a 96 honda accord lx, and i own a 97 honda accord ex. basically what i want to know is if the f22b2 block has a place i can mount the sensors from the f22b1

No it doesn't.
However, that being said, you can take the oil pump housing from your OBD2 96 F22B1 and put it on your OBD1 94 F22B2.

The easiest way to tell if you have the OBDII 96/97 or OBD1 94/95, if you can't find the date stamp, is by how I described in the quote you posted. Look for the location of TDC & CKP sensors.
Inside the distributor = OBDI
Behind the crank/timing cover = OBDII
If you look down at the lower timing belt cover, on the firewall side, you will see 4 wires coming out from behind the timing cover if it is OBDII.
