Default Towing with 2003 accord 4Cyl (need experienced help)

hey there.

I have a 2003 accord 4 cyl auto transmission.

i installed a Class 1 Hidden Hitch (bolt on with no drilling)

I am wondering if anyone has experience towing a trailer (gross weight empty = 900lbs). there will be about 225lbs total inside the trailer and about 400lbs inside the vehicle including people. I will be driving about 1000 miles. the first 50 miles are a bit mountainous but from there its flat the rest of the way. I plan to split the trip up to 2x500mile trips.

how often should i stop and for how long during each trip? i'm most worried about the transmission and what gear.. safe speed...etc

Anyone ever towed with this or similar vehicle before?

if it matters it will be 2 passengers plus a 25lb child plus a little bit of clothes so not much weight inside the vehicle.

thanks for any help.

transmission/engine has 30k miles on it. most if not all driving will be on interstate from virginia to florida

If u have aftermarket wheels on the car be carful. We put a tow kit on a 01 accord for a client here and he has 20 inch rims and a 4cyl. He tows his bike and is now having tranny problems do to all the weight. Not saying dont do it but be carful. Just dont think these motors make enough power to tow heavy things with these trannys.

the car shouldnt have any problems towing that. my recommendations would be to stay out of OD, like, turn OD off. and try not to stop to much, as long as you have momentum you'll be fine.

no aftermarket rims, the bike must weigh about 400lbs at least unless your talking about a pedal bike.

exceeding the lowing capacity will kill your transmission. Having a tranny cooler will allow it to live longer before it dies. You can buy a 4*6 trailer for about $500 that weighs in at about 500 lbs and your bike would fit on it and allow you to stay under the 1000 lb limit.

I have a 1994 accord with a 4 cyl and auto. Installed a draw-tite hitch and a cargo carrier so I can take my pocket bike around. The pocket bike and cargo carrier weigh 140 lbs so I still am within the 200lb tounge weight limit. I installed a tranny cooler and I placed it a few inches in front of the A/C condensor.

Yeah make sure you have the trailering mentality when you do that. Just look ahead further than usual and keep longer following distances. Drive in D3 too unless ur truckin on the level highway
