A tale of two filters

A tale of two filters
I have a 1995 Honda Accord f22b2 and a 2012 Honda Odyssey. Back in July I changed the oil in the 95 but forgot that I was out of filters. I did have a filter for the odyssey. Though the can size is different, the rubber seal and threads are identical (confirmed by a comparison of specifications). I used the odyssey filter (NAPA 7356) instead of the proper one (NAPA 1334). All was well for the first 2000 miles and then I noticed my oil pressure light flickering but only when the engine was warm and at idle. I swapped in the correct accord filter and the car has been okay for the past 5000 miles. I coming up on another oil change and am just curious about what happened??? 252k miles, mobile one full syn

Fluid dynamics bud. By placing a different rated/type/spec oil filter you mess with the fluid dynamics of the oil flowing thru it and throughout your car and when at a "warm idle" is when it's worst. You probably did not cause enough damage to outlast the years you'll be driving the things anyways, if you know what I mean? Heck, you may not have caused any damage...who knows, but it's a possibility to some degree. When things are engineered just about every thing matters, so don't take chances unless its warranted.

Just wondering if you checked the oil level and/or added some oil to the system when you changed out the filter to the Accord filter?
I have up sized the oil filter on both my Accord and Ridgeline with no issues at all. Well over 200k km between them.
The specs are identical aside from the volume of the filters and burst pressure, inlet and outlet openings are identical. Not sure how that changes the fluid dynamics of the lubrication system enough to drop the pressure randomly? The use of a larger filter would not cause a drop in oil pressure only after 2000miles, if there was a drop in pressure you would see it right away.

I did check the oil level, and it was fine. The filter from the odyssey is physically smaller, probably half of the volume that the accord normally takes. Is it possible that it just became saturated with contaminates because of this reason?

If you used the J V6 filter, it probably has a different check valve and pressure relief valve inside the filter than the F I4 filter.
I highly doubt it is from filtration size, it could simply be due to various check valves and how the filter is constructed internally.
IIRC the J series V6s has the filter hanging vertically or at a slight angle, where-as the F series has the filter horizontal.
A '12 engine is going to be a couple decades advanced from an 80's engineered( F series. Tolerances are going to be different.
Or it could simply be a freak occurrence.
One example is not enough to merit a concern, the filter may itself have been faulty, the lack of capacity might have been an issue as well.
However as capacities go, for the F series various brands have wildly sized filters. Fram sells a thimble for our engines, while Wix and Mobil 1 sell boilers.
