you should test the vss before replaceing it....I would guess it's a 94-97 accord on these cars the speedo unit fails as for the CEL search for how to pull the trouble codes thats the starting place the one I would be worried most is the oil light take it in and have the oil pressure checked if ok it could be a bad sensor but if low serious engine damage could result...

Did you not check the CEL before changing stuff out? Find out that first.

Make sure that IT IS in fact a faulty VSS. Check the code and post back. Is it just your speedo that is acting up or are their more sypmtoms? Perhaps your power steering is acting up? Or possibly your ABS hasn't been working either?

As for your oil problem, my guess would be the oil pressure sensor has gone bad. That's an easy fix and nothing to really stress over.

Quick Question:
Check Engine Light off?

Get ye to local salvage emporium and procure replacement cluster.

The ECM is verifying the existance of a VSS signal, but the speedo isn't processing it. It's either that or SOMEONE's been futzing around under the dash (alarm Installer maybe) and damaged something he (or she) shouldn't of.

the CEL is coming on because the ECU isnt seeing a signal from the speedo. I am having the same problem. I know my speedo is working and replaced the VSS but still have issues. If I back my car into my driveway, the speedo will work for about 15 miles then go to zero. I am not sure why it works this way except my driveway has a slight incline. I dont know if the actual speed mechanism requires oil to work but that is what it seems. Good luck.
