Default sensor problems

I was having trouble with power loss after a period of driving for that decreased as it got worse. The motor is aan A20A3 out of an'88 accord... Lxi i think. I checked the ECU and got a code 9 (crank angle sensor) I endded up having to buy the entire distrubor (the sensor is in the distributor). I was able to find one for $100 used. After replacing the sensor i had the same problem as well as a code 9 and the PRGM-FI light in the dash. Is there anything i could check, or did i pay $100 for a worthless sensor and need to go raise some hell?
