parts for a tune up ... what are the good brands?
hey guys. i have a 98 LX 4cyl manual transmission that I will be doing a tune up to. Just wanted to know what are the good brands for the parts I need for the tune up. I'm planning on changing the distributor cap, rotors, and wires. Can I just go to Advanced Auto Parts and get whatever they have or should I look out for a specific brand?
I didn't know about the Bosch spark plugs and bought those instead of the NGK. I want to avoid the same mistake w/ the other parts...
Also, how much would I be expecting to pay if I took it somewhere to get done? Any recommendations on where?
Thanks!!

Good question...
NGK spark plugs and wires is the way to go. I took my car recently to inquire about a tune up (94 Honda Accord EX 5spd, as well) and the guy quoted me $225 with the "cheap parts" and $250 with "better parts." Now, I really don't know how much of a difference $25 bucks makes btwn "good" and "bad" parts. I have a feeling though labor took the bulk of the amount he was charging me. I wish I could help you a little more as far as what the good parts pertain, but I would suggest you first read some articles online about tune ups, like I did. Different mechanics have varying definitions of what a tune up should be, i.e some replace spark plugs and wires, and others replace what needs to be replaced (water pump, wires, etc, etc, etc). That's my 2 cents.

I would stick with OEM parts, unless you are upgrading (i.e. MSD distributor cap or Nology wires). I've always had trouble running aftermarket ignition components on Honda's. For the slight price difference I think its worth it to buy OEM. Oh and I would also use NGK plugs, they have been the only plugs to never give me troubles. I got Bosch a few years ago and my car ran like crap, when I changed them out it ran fine. You can get the NGK V-Power plugs for about $3 each at any auto parts store.

if you do decide to go OEM go with majestic honda.com, or try tas autoparts.com they cater only to the honda family, but i find MAjestic is cheaper then TASAUTOPARTS. anyway if you want oem like i said order from them. Also
do your tune up your damm self can't be too hard if you are mechanically inclined
