P0171 and P1297- MAP sensor?

So I had issues with my map sensor before. The wires got damaged so I had soldered them and wrapped them in electrical tape. Now a while later I'm getting these two codes- and my car has been lacking a bit. My manifold pressure readings from the ECU have appeared to be on the low side. I believe thats read through the MAP sensor. Is the sensor bad if the wires were soldered and secured?

The P1297 is Electrical Load Detector Circuit Low Input- Can someone explain what that is? I'm having trouble finding it online.
P0171 is a too lean system

Thanks. I saw info on the p1298 but wasnt sure if the same would apply. Would it cause my car to run lean too?

and my map sensor voltages dont look right. the ground measures really low and the signal doesnt change when i open the throttle.

Basically, given how much I mess with my car, can I get a p1297 from a faulty sensor?
If the ground on the map is low and the signal wire does not seem to correspond with throttle then that could cause a lean engine and the p1297?

P1928 wouldn't cause the car to run lean. If the map sensor wasn't working the car would run very poorly. Its more likely you have a vacuum leak, the valves could be tight or it could be a bad O2 sensor.

its a p1297. p1298 is the opposite issue. I checked my o2 sensor, there was oil in between the connection.
I just changed the MAP sensor connection as well and the voltage reading at idle has gone up by a volt. I think both were shorting but not enough to be significant. My car has lost power but hasnt been acting up aside from the CEL.
Now the question is was the oil foul play or just incidental...

ima drive my car for a while and see if the light comes back on.

Something else is happening now. Not too bad but a little weird. I saw my rpm gauge fluctuate for a second or two but it did so a lot. 1k to 5k, back and forth, but nothing to do with the engine. The engine wasnt reving. Just the gauge was moving. It stopped but I am also noticing my idle is going back to being a little weird as well. Think it may be an electrical system error but donno. Could the ELD cause random electrical issues like that?

the eld controls the flow of amps of the main system or it could just be your icm

So if the amps vary due to a bad ELD then that could cause many different issues including random surges and faulty sensor readings?

With reference volts from the ecu, it creates its own voltage based on how much amps is going through the fuse box. Unfortunately on your car the ELD unit can't be removed you would need another fuse box assembly. I don't know exactly which car you have, this is an example.

part number 16 would be the general part depending on which car you have. You could also try finding another from the junk yard. Just make sure it's for the same car(manual or auto) and trim.

The best way to test the map sensor is with a vacuum pump. You can just add your own vacuum with the connector plugged in and the ignition on and can better test it.

The codes came back on. Oddly enough the computer had reset after some ground issues on saturday and it took only two days for the CEL to come back on. Same two at the same time. Are they related?

Re: P0171 and P1297- MAP sensor?

Did you test your map sensor ? If you test the map sensor(they call this the K test) you should be able to tell if your ecu is going bad since you won't be getting accurate reference volts(5 volts). Like I said before if you can get your hands on a vacuum pump, Mitty vac makes a good one, you can more accurately test the map sensor. Also, did you pick up another ELD ?

Both of them get reference volts from the ecu. This could be the ecu or could even be a wiring issue. When you test them, try to wiggle some of the wires to see if it changes.

I'm gonna start with vacuum leaks and ground connections from the swap and see were I can go from there.
